Opening Talk: Artists on Artists – Amba Sayal-Bennett and Augustine Paredes

The new season of the Jameel’s Artists Rooms – capsule solo shows occupying a single gallery at the Jameel, with work drawn largely from the Art Jameel Collection and curated in dialogue with the artist – opens with exhibiting artists Amba Sayal-Bennett and Augustine Paredes talking about their practices.

The evening (and the exhibitions) open with a welcome from Dawn Ross, Head of Collections. Then at about 5.10pm Sayal-Bennett discusses practices driven by drawing, sculpture and text with artist Sarah Almehairi, giving particular attention to architecture, materiality, spectatorship and the relationships between these; and at around 5.40pm, Paredes is joined in conversation by artist Khalid Mezaina to explore their process of first-person narration, portraiture of city, people, and representation across image, illustration, and beyond.

These will be followed by a Q&A, and at 6.30pm there will be a live sound performance by Paredes. Should be over by 8pm.
