Yaw Owusu: Where the Tide Flows, and the Dunes Gather
The Ghanain artist’s second solo exhibition with Efie Gallery extends Owusu’s longstanding exploration of value, currency, and the social structures through which worth is assigned and perceived; it features textured canvases, mixed media sculptures, and – for the first time in his practice – works on paper.
Working with materials already embedded within systems of exchange, Owusu considers currency as more than an economic instrument, approaching it as a social language through which hierarchies of worth are constructed and maintained. Through accumulation, repetition, and transformation, materials assigned little individual value take on an imposing presence, challenging the assumptions that determine what is considered precious.
To 10 January.
