Wassef Boutros-Ghali: A Retrospective (1965-2016)

In the canvases of Wassef Boutros-Ghali, colours informed by a knowledge of unrelenting Mediterranean sunlight flood the flat plane of the canvas; architectural forms emerge, collide and re-engineer themselves without a narrative. Boutros-Ghali’s art speaks to the pure and unrestricted physicality of painting, and his compositions reflect a meticulous yet openhearted response to the human condition – marvels of reason buoyed by a lifetime’s worth of lyricism.
Wassef Boutros-Ghali passed away in March 2023, aged 98. He was painting right up until his death.
To 5 November. The launch of the Wassef Boutros-Ghali: Catalogue Raisonné published by Skira will be held in conjunction with the opening.
