Marwan: A Soul in Exile

As part of Alserkal Art Week, and marking 20 years since Christie’s first Dubai auction dedicated to Modern and Contemporary Middle Eastern Art, this exhibition of works by the Syrian-German artist Marwan Kassab-Bachi (1934–2016) was first shown at Christie’s London in summer 2025. For Dubai, it has been newly curated to focus on Marwan’s role as an artist, educator and cultural connector, situating his practice within the wider artistic and intellectual networks of the Arab world and highlighting his influence on artists from Palestine, Iraq, Syria and beyond.
