LAST CHANCE Stephan Kaluza: From Dust to Bloom

Stephan Kaluza’s practice is fundamentally concerned with depictions of nature, either as hyper-realistic oils or near-abstract renderings. These two modes of painting should be seen as different stages of the same subject in a process of transformation: disruptions creep in, and appearances prove deceptive. Says the gallery: “At first glance, the paintings appear to be precise, almost preservative images of an intact world – until a second layer emerges, sharply challenging what is being seen”.
