Fereydoun Ave: A Mini-Retrospective

4 October 2023
Free

Tehran’s Dastan Gallery has worked with Fereydoun Ave since its establishment and has been part of many of his projects. In this exhibition, Dastan seeks to present a glimpse into the diverse and multidimensional world and practice of the artist.

It makes a nice counterpoint to the major show currently at the Jameel, which focuses on Fereydoun Ave as collector: this one looks at the man as artist. It shows a selection of works from Fereydoun Ave created over five decades, reviewing his prolific life and expansive artistic practice. Over that time he has taken on many roles as an artist, designer, art director, collector, curator, gallerist, and art patron. Fereydoun Ave’s joint projects with artists, galleries, and institutions are an integral part of his practice.

“Fereydoun Ave belongs to the dancers among artists – crossing cultural boundaries and mastering life with a lightness of being, intuition and, at times, an element of calculation,” writes Peter Fischer in Fereydoun Ave – Shah Abbas and his Page Boy (2016). “Ave strives to comprehend and make visible what he experiences by thinking in broad complexes of interrelated dimensions.

To 30 October.
