After 20 years in Switzerland, Sue (Nadine Labaki) returns to her homeland Egypt to visit her dying mother (Fanny Ardant). Their complicated relationship is revealed on a road trip from Cairo to Alexandria; during their journey through Egypt’s beautiful landscape, the reasons why Sue has not been in her homeland for so many years are uncovered … This is a charming and thought-provoking film about nostalgia, homeland, and confronting past traumas., supported by some excellent acting from the two leads.

This screening, which is in French with English subtitles, is part of SUAD’s Francofilm Festival– a series of five films showing on consecutive nights between 19 and 23 April, celebrating the French language and the diversity of Francophone cinema.
