Athar Jaber: Vestiges

A solo exhibition for an artist only recently signed by Ayyam Gallery. This large body of work, an exploration of the fragile relationship between the human form and the forces that shape it, re-imagines the human form as figures that transcend mere physical disfigurement to serve as symbolic representations of how individuals are torn apart by the weight of the world. Athar’s sculptures embody an ideal of beauty, but their fractured state suggests that this is in fact an illusion.
The artist statement speaks of human forms that emerge and recede – “fragmented, eroded, and incomplete, yet alive … They appear as remnants of something once whole, as though time has worn away at them … In the absence of features, the viewer is invited to project their own reflections of memory, identity, and impermanence.
To 1 April.
