Abstractions: A Journey Between Islamic and Contemporary Art

Guggenheim Abu Dhabi is preparing the local audience for its 11 December opening with a series of events “for the public to engage with artists, ideas and conversations that are shaping the new museum”. The mini-package closes with artist Rachid Koraïchi and curator Abdelkader Damani discussing abstraction as “a shared artistic language across cultures and time … Through reflections on calligraphy, geometry and contemporary artistic practice, the programme will offer audiences fresh perspectives on the connection between Islamic heritage and contemporary art, revealing the connections and exchanges that continue to shape artistic expression today”. Warning: the PR bumf gave Louvre Abu Dhabi as the location (which makes sense) but the registration form says Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque (which doesn’t). Good luck …
