Ammar Al Attar: Silent Residues

The first solo exhibition for a key figure of the contemporary avant-garde in the UAE, curated by Nasser Abdullah. This series engages with abandoned and derelict spaces across the Emirates in a playful, insightful way. Often using desert settings and largely forgotten industrial sites, Al Attar documents a series of repetitive physical gestures on black-and-white inkjet prints that are punctuated with bold, colourful forms that heighten the dialogue between the artist and his surroundings.

“After a long journey through the world of photography and experimentation in the realm of performance art, Al Attar was led from behind the camera’s lens to becoming the central subject of his own works,” says curator Nasser Abdullah in the opening press release. “He enters a new phase by offering a series of reflections and critical questions on the transformations of the rapidly evolving post-Covid world, highlighting technology, economics and global politics.”
