Singin’ in the Rain
The highly successful stage adaptation of the iconic MGM film about silent film actors who face their share of struggles over the gradual transition to talkies. The plot isn’t what matters, of course; it’s the songs – classics like Good Morning, Make ’em Laugh, Moses Supposes, and of course Singin’ in the Rain – and the dancing (there’s no Gene Kelly, but the choreography by Andrew Wright is just great). There will also be live rain showers on stage every night …
This touring show is directed by Jonathan Church, premiered at the Chichester Festival Theatre (where the front rows were given waterproof macs to ward off the splashes) before a West End run, and has suitably opulent set designs by Simon Higlett that make the most of the all-essential lamppost. The result is a celebration of Hollywood’s golden era with romance, humour and wall-to-wall entertainment.
