Une part manquante | A Missing Part: dir Guillaume Senez (2024)

Belgian filmmaker Guillaume Senez has always been fascinated with personal responsibility and family dynamics. His latest film, which premiered at last autumn’s Toronto Film Festival, fits the mould; it tells the story of a father’s struggle to reconnect with his estranged daughter in a place that doesn’t take too kindly to foreigners like him. Working as a driver for a private car service in Tokyo, French expat Jay has never been able to get custody of his daughter Lily; for nine years he has used his occupation to travel the length and breadth of Tokyo in his cab, looking for his daughter … Just when he decides to give up and move back to France, a chance encounter opens up the possibility that he might actually find with his daughter.
This screening, which is in French with English subtitles, is part of SUAD’s Francofilm Festival– a series of five films showing on consecutive nights between 19 and 23 April, celebrating the French language and the diversity of Francophone cinema.
