The Unfriend
Peter and Debbie are a timorous suburban couple who are “dying of manners”. They can’t communicate with their teenage children, can’t stand their neighbour, and can’t believe they have agreed to host a brash American, Elsa, who was amusing company when they met on a cruise … but that was then. Her arrival prompts Peter to yearn for a real-life equivalent of Facebook’s ‘unfriend’ button. After all, if the internet rumours are to be believed she may well be a murderer. Still, that’s no reason to kick her out, is it?
This well-reviewed black comedy of crumbling boundaries and exquisite embarrassment was written by Steven Moffat, showrunner and head writer of Doctor Who (2010–2017) and co-creator of Sherlock (2010–2017), and is directed for H72 Productions by Priya Pinto. There are further performances on 13 and 14 December.
