Talal Al Najjar: Mesh & Mayhem

Talal Al Najjar’s works feel very contemporary, not just in his use of materials and technologuy but also in his concerns and ambitions. He produces sculpture, video, sound, CGI animation, painting, and installation, in addition to writing and curation; his is a research-driven interdisciplinary practice that seeks to recontextualise material culture, artefacts, and imagery. This ‘defamiliarisation’, overlaid with irony and seen through an absurdist lens, prompts anthropological and material questions. Primary concerns include ideas around simulation, postproduction, poor images, counter-futurisms, and the contention of postmodern conditions.
Says the gallery: “The exhibition confronts the way simulation infiltrates geography and biology – where the mesh becomes both structure and rupture, at once a connective tissue and a site of collapse …”
To 24 October.
