Stuntwomen: dir Elena Avdija (2022)

“Cinema has a fascination with sexist violence. We like to see women suffer, getting kidnapped or raped,” said Avdija in a Variety interview. These are the scenes the stuntwomen protagonists of her telling documentary – Virginie Arnaud, Petra Sprecher and Estelle Piget – are usually asked to portray. The film questions how cinema and television distribute roles and violence on the screen; “There will always be work for stuntwomen, because there will always be stories about women getting hurt”.

This film screens in a short Francophone season (with English subtitles) at Sorbonne Abu Dhabi – shows in the Sorbonne’s rather nice outdoor garden.
