Winner of the Grand Prix at the Festival de Cannes, followed by the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film and BAFTA recognition, this is something of a masterpiece from Trier: the Rotten Tomatoes summary is to the point – “deftly exploring the uneasy tension between artistic expression and personal connection, Sentimental Value is a bracingly mature work from writer-director Joachim Trier that’s marvellously acted across the board”. The story  centres on sisters Nora and Agnes as they reunite with their estranged father, Gustav, a once‑celebrated filmmaker seeking a return to relevance. When Gustav offers Nora a role in his new film and she refuses, the casting of a young Hollywood star reopens old wounds.
