Living Continuity: Urban Workshop Series No.1 – Navigating neighborhoods through emotion

22 March 2025 @ 7.15 pm10.30 pm
Free, but pre-register

This is the first in a series of urban workshops by Sharjah Architecture Triennial offering an opportunity to critically reflect on our practices and roles as urban dwellers and/or practitioners. Workshops are based in Al Jubail “which offers both a spatial construct and conceptual scaffold to facilitate the exploration of the convergence of historical, social, ecological, and economic urban systems … This space is intended as both a real and hypothetical environment to explore what it means for us to practice from a neighbourhood while remaining sensitive to it”.

The workshops are led by artists, researchers and writers who have been invited to offer both insights and tools; this opener is led by Bhoomika Ghaghada, whose writing concerns structural inequalities and trauma and how they shape everyday realities in the Gulf. Her workshop will explore how the city isn’t static, and how we may resist the impulse to capture or contain it – “we will begin telling stories from place, not about“.

The evening begins at 7.15pm with an Iftar, group introductions, and warm-up exercises at Old Al Jubail Vegetable Market plaza. From 9pm there’s an hour’s walk from Old Al Jubail Vegetable Market along Sharjah Corniche, regrouping at 10pm for discussion.
