Jazz at The Island: Mayssa Karaa and Las Migas

Second of near-jazz gigs on consecutive nights at Al Noor Island. This one features Ars Nova Napoli (below), the Italian nu-folk funsters (traditional Neapolitan rhythms with a modern twist) who really do know how to throw a party; and the Cuban cellist, singer and composer Ana Carla Maza (top), hailed as one of Latin America’s most promising young jazz talents for her blend of Latin jazz, bossa nova and tango. Highly recommended.

Performances start at 8.30pm, but doors open at 6pm and there are free guided tours of the island and the chance to sample the F&B – the organisers suggest “you arrive early to enjoy the tours and pre-event experiences, as spaces are limited”. Single-night tickets are AED 130, but there’s a both-gigs deal at AED 225.
