Game. Set. Match. Rematch
When this show debuted in September last year, it sold out โ and deservedly so: it was well acted (and most of the same gang are back for this revival), well directed (by Satya Baskaran, who’s also in charge this time), and cleverly constructed (writer Sid Abbas moved the location to Dubai and populated the script with recognisable Dubai folk).
Abbas reworked the 2016 Italian film Perfect Strangers, itself a critical and commercial success, with the locale switched to Dubai’s tennis scene. Set in a luxury tennis club suite, the play follows seven long-time friends reunited for a destination wedding; but a seemingly innocent game of sharing phone messages and calls turns into digital Russian roulette. Secrets, affairs, emotional confessions, and some truly terrible texting etiquette emerge … The result: quickfire dialogue, some laugh-out-loud moments, and emotional gut-punches: “if you’ve ever been in a relationship, had a group chat, or made a mistake you hoped your partner would never see โ this play is for you”.
There are further shows at 7.30pm on 17 and 18 October.
