Emel Mathlouthi

2 March 2024 @ 7.30 pm9.30 pm
AED 105

The groundbreaking vision of the iconic Tunisian artist is spotlighted in a performance ranging from folk music to electronica via straight-up rock. Mathlouthi is a songwriter, composer, guitarist, and singer with an otherworldly voice that sounds equally at home in the streets, clubs, theatres, or at the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony where she performed in 2015. Her sound has shifted and complicated, incorporating a dark atmosphere, expansive electronics, and digital glitches.

For this concert, she will showcase her environmentally-themed project Everywhere We Looked Was Burning, accompanied by electronics and a string quartet (which includes NYUAD instructor Klaudia Olborska-Szymańska on violin).

There will be a night souk as well, with 40 retail vendors offering locally made artisan products, including handmade soaps, candles, local artwork, jewellery, home décor, and pottery.
