The LA-based artist’s first solo exhibition in West Asia. In Night Stone, a large one-room installation, Candice Lin uses ceramic sculptures, textile works and a site-specific mural to connect the contemporary trade of manganese between Australia and China with the 18th-century commerce in sea cucumbers. Intrigued by the sea cucumbers’ unique digestive and respiratory systems, Lin imagines and depicts their toxic encounter with manganese and the surprising bodily transformations that follow.
The exhibition was co-commissioned by the Biennale of Sydney and Monash University Museum of Art | MUMA in Melbourn.
To 12 January.
