Artist Talk: Independence in the Music Business with Oddisee

Prior to his Arts Center show tomorrow, the fiercely independent hip hop artist Oddisee will lead a talk in the NYUAD Gallery Reading Room that focuses on the DIY entrepreneurial approach to building his career – instead of pursuing record deals, Oddisee has taken the less-travelled path from single-handedly writing, recording, producing, and mixing his music to steering his marketing strategy and tour runs. In this presentation and audience Q&A, Oddisee covers some of the essentials elements of this: building a brand, identifying markets, developing relationships with promoters, and running a record label (he launched his own label OUTER NOTE in 2020).
