Mozart’s Greatest
You can’t fault the UAENO’s ambition in naming this programme – the title almost precludes discussion. It includes three admittedly classic works, but there must surely have been a strong case for others (we’d have gone for the Symphony No.41 ‘Jupiter’ as one of the greatest). Still, it is a strong programme that highlights Mozart’s versatility as well as his technical skills, ranging from the often dark intensity of the opener through virtuosity and musical brilliance to the dramatic intensity and emotional depth of Symphony No.40.
Ahmed Farag conducts the UAE National Orchestra, with the Serbian pianist Nenad Ivović the soloist for the Piano Concerto.
The programme:
Overture from Don Giovanni, K.527
Piano Concerto No.21 in C Major, K. 467
Symphony No.40 in G minor, K.550
