Dubai Bibliophiles Book Club – Toni Morrison’s Beloved

The book group discusses what is arguably Morrison’s finest literary work, a multi-layered attempt to give voice to the collective memory of African Americans that also explores notions of family, trauma, the repression of memory, and of course the restoration of the historical record. Published in 1987, it won a Pullitzer Prize and New York Times poll of critics ranked it as the best work of American fiction between 1981 and 2006. Well worth reading, and a rich source for discussion.
