Within this setting\, an Arab-Andalusian poet\, a museum director\, a curator\, and a contemporary artist attempt to conceive an exhibition that re-examines modernism through two parallel lenses: the poetic legacy of the Arab-Andalusian era and the work of established contemporary Arab artists. \nTheir exchanges reveal the negotiations\, frictions\, and power dynamics involved in translating historical narratives into contemporary artistic frameworks. Through this constructed situation\, Untitled 14km questions legitimacy\, authority\, and representation within the global art system\, considering how identity is shaped through discourse\, competition\, and institutional validation\, contributing to a sharply witty examination of Orientalism in the arts. \nThere’s a second performance tomorrow (2 October).

Jalal has a storied career in collaborations across a variety of musical styles\, primarily in contemporary jazz but also with rap and recently in Indian music too; Shaheen is a noted Egyptian oud player\, singer\, and composer. The pair released their album Liqaa in 2018\, and their synergy suggests we will be in for an intimate and reflective evening of musical virtuosity.

DESCRIPTION:Founded by Emirati filmmaker and curator Nawaf Al Janahi in 2020\, Cineolio exists to promote short films and expand their audience reach internationally. Its Cinenights screening series presents a diverse selection of short films on the big screen\, celebrating cinematic togetherness and promoting intellectual and cultural exchange. \nOn Tuesday\, October 20\, Cineolio’s Cinenights returns with an international selection of five short films\, curated and moderated by Emirati filmmaker Nawaf Al Janahi. Founded by Al Janahi in 2020\, Cineolio promotes short films and works to expand their international audience reach. \nThe evening includes Aspis\, an Italian documentary about a viper emerging from hibernation; Long Trip\, a Belgian-Iraqi drama about a young man’s decision over his father’s burial; Moderator\, a US drama based on anonymous accounts from social media content moderators; Puquio\, set in Peru and centered on a 99-year-old woman’s memories and hopes for reunion; and Tsutsue\, a French-Ghanaian drama about two brothers living near a landfill that spills into the ocean. Female relationships are complicated enough as is\, even between those on a level playing field; but in their adopted home in Tunisia none of the women are equals from a socio-economic standpoint … \nScreens in the CinemaNA series of contemporary Arab cinema.
