DESCRIPTION:The first of two Autumn concerts by the explicitly named and highly commendable Emirates Community Symphonic Orchestra under the baton of Jonathon Grover. The programme includes pieces by Bizet\, Delius\, Schubert and George Butterworth. \nThe latter is an English composer who died on the Somme in 1916; he’s not performed so much these days\, partly because he didn’t write much music in the first place and party because he destroyed anything he wasn’t entirely happy with\, but his settings of poems from Houseman’s A Shropshire Lad are well worth seeking out. His works for full orchestra also include a Rhapsody based on A Shropshire Lad. \nEntrance is free\, but you need to prebook a seat by emailing ecsosymphony@gmail.com.
