SUMMARY:Juma Al Haj: Interoception
DESCRIPTION:Centred on the concept of ‘interoception’\, the body’s ability to sense and process its internal state\, this exhibition examines how moments of crisis are internalised and transformed into material expression. Developed in response to the first missile attacks reported in the UAE in February 2026\, Interoception traces Al Haj’s instinctive return to painting as a means of processing fear\, uncertainty\, and collective anxiety; working through layered surfaces\, fragmented script\, and visceral mark-making\, the artist transforms deeply personal reactions into visual expressions of disruption and resilience.  The show is curated by Shamma Al Mheiri. \nTo 6 August. \nAbove: Juma Al Haj\, Disintegration (2026) \n

SUMMARY:Ammar Al Attar: Silent Residues
DESCRIPTION:The first solo exhibition for a key figure of the contemporary avant-garde in the UAE\, curated by Nasser Abdullah. This series engages with abandoned and derelict spaces across the Emirates in a playful\, insightful way. Often using desert settings and largely forgotten industrial sites\, Al Attar documents a series of repetitive physical gestures on black-and-white inkjet prints that are punctuated with bold\, colourful forms that heighten the dialogue between the artist and his surroundings. \n“After a long journey through the world of photography and experimentation in the realm of performance art\, Al Attar was led from behind the camera’s lens to becoming the central subject of his own works\,” says curator Nasser Abdullah in the opening press release. “He enters a new phase by offering a series of reflections and critical questions on the transformations of the rapidly evolving post-Covid world\, highlighting technology\, economics and global politics.” \nTo 26 November. \nAbove: Ammar Al Attar\, Coloured Cement blocks (2025)

As the artist says\, “Every corner has its own handmade and craft details\, every street has its own story that was told without words\, but with visual and architectural symbols … Architectural and linguistic identity has always been a source of inspiration and a special passion for me. It is not just a reflection of a place but a living image of people’s history\, interactions\, dreams\, memories\, and obsessions.” \nStructural Syntax\, Al Othman’s first solo show in the UAE\, transforms the gallery into an immersive space with pieces that use this visual language to deconstruct traditional systems of meaning\, “offering works that challenge perceptions of the way we interact with the built environment\, culture\, and the spaces we inhabit”. For instance\, Untitled (Al Maktoum) references Dubai’s Al Maktoum Bridge from 1963\, one of the earliest symbols of Sheikh Rashid Al Maktoum’s plans to shape a forward-thinking metropolis; Al Othman’s work suggests how infrastructure can become symbolic of a city’s evolving identity. The speed\, rhythms and restless energy of citiews like Riyadh are captured in Untitled (Light and Language)\, a metal panneau crafted from neon tubes \nSays the gallery: “Al Othman’s work reflects his broader interest in the relationship between language and form\, exploring how visual elements can act as a mean of communication\, transcending the limits of spoken or written words. Future programming is planned to include talks\, panels and guided tours of exhibitions; artists represented by Iris (and from whom we can presumably expect future shows) include Abdullah Al Othman\, Juma Al Haj\, Roudhah Al Mazrouie\, and Shamsa Al Omaira.
