{"id":67203,"date":"2026-02-11T14:28:27","date_gmt":"2026-02-11T10:28:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/magpie.ae\/staging4\/?post_type=tribe_events&#038;p=67203"},"modified":"2026-02-11T14:28:27","modified_gmt":"2026-02-11T10:28:27","slug":"kavan-2","status":"publish","type":"tribe_events","link":"https:\/\/magpie.ae\/staging4\/event\/kavan-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Kavan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The second performance (of three) for this interesting collaboration between the Mumbai-based music and street theatre group Yalgaar Sanskrutik Manch and the Nalanda Arts Studio from Bangalore. <em>Kavan<\/em>\u00a0is described as an \u2018Ambedkarite Opera&#8217; \u2013 Ambedkarism being the set of anti-caste ideas associated with Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar (1891-1956), an Indian economist, barrister, social reformer, and political thinker and activist.<\/p>\n<p>The storyline, which is carried exclusively in poetry and song (hence the &#8216;opera&#8217; tag), concerns a young man called Bejul and his journey to becoming a Shahir, a politically-aware performance poet; it\u2019s a path from acceptance of the status quo, including compliance with the social norms like gender and caste, to a gradual realisation that many of the constraints in his life are actually man-made and not predetermined.
