{"id":66533,"date":"2026-02-03T20:05:09","date_gmt":"2026-02-03T16:05:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/magpie.ae\/staging4\/?post_type=tribe_events&#038;p=66533"},"modified":"2026-03-03T21:39:29","modified_gmt":"2026-03-03T17:39:29","slug":"ramadaniyyat-naissam-jalal-and-hazem-shaheen","status":"publish","type":"tribe_events","link":"https:\/\/magpie.ae\/staging4\/event\/ramadaniyyat-naissam-jalal-and-hazem-shaheen\/","title":{"rendered":"<mark>POSTPONED<\/mark> Ramadaniyyat: Na\u00efssam Jalal and Hazem Shaheen"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\">Flutist and vocalist<strong> Na\u00efssam Jalal<\/strong> and oud master <strong>Hazem Shaheen<\/strong> have been friends and collaborators for nearly 20 years, composing and performing an intimate, meditative repertoire that uses just their two instruments and brings together the classical Arabic tradition of improvised taqsim and modern jazz.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\">Born in Paris to Syrian parents, Na\u00efssam Jalal is one of the leading figures on the contemporary jazz scene \u2013 the leader of four groups, a prolific composer, and with 10 albums to her name (including one with <a style=\"color: #808080;\" href=\"https:\/\/naissamjalal.bandcamp.com\/track\/souffle-1-feat-archie-shepp\">a very cool track featuring Archie Shepp<\/a>). In 2024, Jalal was named best French flutist by Jazz Magazine.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\">Hazem Shaheen is an Egyptian oud player, singer, and composer. He studied at the Bait Al Oud and subsequently taught there before moving on to Cairo Opera House. He has albums with his band Eskenderella and as a solo performer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\">Jalal and Hazem Shaheen have done many concerts together but only one album (<a style=\"color: #808080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.qobuz.com\/us-en\/album\/liqaa-naissam-jalal-hazem-shaheen\/v5hg99e6lab4b\"><strong>Liqaa<\/strong><\/a>, in 2018: it&#8217;s very fine).
