On the occasion of International Archives Week (when “all around the world, archival community professionals join together to explain to the world at large why supporting archives and the profession is so important”) NYUAD’s al Mawrid Arab Center for the Study of Art<\/a> is running an Open House to expand on the integral role that archives have in preserving cultural heritage and memory in the Arab world.<\/p>\n

There’s a tour of resources (at 10am and 2pm) led by al Mawrid\u2019s researchers and archivists, designed to guide attendees through the development and ethos of a research archive.<\/p>\n

There’s also a hands-on instructional session, Preserving Your Family Memories, at midday \u2013 attendees will be introduced to the preservation of family archives and will have the opportunity to apply their newly acquired skills with the supervision of al Mawrid\u2019s archivist and conservator. Participants are encouraged to bring samples from their own family archive collections.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
