Which is great, but would have been more impressive if he had managed to do that without proclaiming it on social media and in a press release (for instance, Coldplay have been donating 10% of their earnings to charitable causes for some time without asking for an extra round of applause) &#8230;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><strong><mark style=\"background-color:#fcf100\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Click here<\/mark><\/strong><\/strong>&nbsp;Abu Dhabi\u2019s Creative Media Authority is looking for Emirati <strong>Videographers<\/strong> and <strong>Photographers<\/strong> (for events coverage) and <strong>Video Editors (<\/strong>presumably to turn their work into \u201ccreative and innovative high-quality videos and short visual materials\u201d). No more details are available \u2013 \u201cshortlisted applicants will be contacted by the relevant team\u201d \u2013 but UAE nationals can apply <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cma.gov.ae\/opportunity-call-out-form\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>here<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:#fcf100\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Build it and they might come<\/mark><\/strong> Fifteen finalists have been named for the inaugural <a href=\"https:\/\/www.architecture.com\/knowledge-and-resources\/knowledge-landing-page\/middle-east-shortlist\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>RIBA Middle East Award<\/strong><\/a>, \u201cshowcasing the most transformative and socially impactful new architecture across the Gulf\u201d (actually just UAE, KSA, Qatar,&nbsp;and Bahrain). There\u2019s some really fine work here, like the <strong>Khor Kalba Wildlife Sanctuary<\/strong> and the boutique hotel conversion of the <strong>Bait Khalid Bin Ibrahim<\/strong>; but the prize will probably go to something more Dubai-ish like <strong>Terra \u2013 The Sustainability Pavilion <\/strong>or<strong> Al Wasl Plaz<\/strong>a&nbsp;&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:#fcf100\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Long on<\/mark><\/strong> The UAE tops the list of <strong>cricket-related searches per capita<\/strong>, according to sports betting stats website <a href=\"http:\/\/smartbettingguide.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>smartbettingguide.com<\/strong><\/a>. The Emirates averages 5,613 searches per 100,000 residents; it\u2019s followed by <strong>Qatar<\/strong> (4,602 searches per 100,000 residents) and <strong>Kuwait<\/strong> (2,412)&nbsp;with <strong>India<\/strong> way down the list at 1,019. Mind you, there\u2019s a lot more people in India&nbsp;&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:#fcf100\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Design wars<\/mark><\/strong> Ithra\u2019s flagship design event <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ithra.com\/en\/special-programs\/tanween\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Tanween<\/strong><\/a> is back for its eight edition, running 17-22 November with six days of exhibitions, talks, workshops etc. Now that\u2019s just a couple of weeks after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dubaidesignweek.ae\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Dubai Design Week<\/strong><\/a>, but the two are slightly different \u2013 Tanween is more structured, more organised, with more workshops, courses and competitions (including the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ithra.com\/en\/special-programs\/tanween\/tanween-challenges\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tanween Challenges open call<\/a><\/strong>: you have till 26 October to register to take part in one of the six-day \u2018design sprints\u2019). And of course there&#8217;s the scale: last year&nbsp;Tanween clocked up a tad more than 2,100 attendees while Dubai Design Week is looking for&nbsp;upwards of 140,000&nbsp;&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:#fcf100\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Shopping for art<\/mark><\/strong> Now this is interesting: an art advisory firm called <a href=\"https:\/\/beaumontnathan.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Beaumont Nathan<\/strong><\/a> is setting up in Abu Dhabi (and not Dubai). The firm, which hitherto has worked out of London and New York, is smaller than many in its field \u2013 going specifically for HNWIs rather than a client base that includes institutions and corporations \u2013 and would claim to be more agile in spotting opportunities and finding art. Apropos of nothing, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.abudhabiart.ae\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Abu Dhabi Art<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 which famously has a quite select and very local client base \u2013 is scheduled for 19-23 November.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Lateefa bin Hamoodah<\/strong> has been signed up as Regional Advisor to Beaumont Nathan; a well-connected cultural strategist and arts patron, she is a patron of the Louvre Abu Dhabi and had been involved in setting up <a href=\"https:\/\/irisprojects.online\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Iris Projects<\/strong><\/a>, \u201ca socially-driven visual arts and culture agency\u201d&nbsp;in Abu Dhabi &#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:#fcf100\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:#fcf100\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Three shows to see<\/mark><\/strong><\/mark><\/strong> Among many opening today: Circus as metaphor from <a href=\"https:\/\/magpie.ae\/staging4\/event\/elias-izoli-inside-out-25\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Elias Izoli<\/strong><\/a> at Ayyam Gallery, <a href=\"https:\/\/magpie.ae\/staging4\/event\/marwan-bassiouni-new-western-views-preview\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Marwan Bassiouni<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s clever window views at Lawrie Shabibi, and an impressive group show for <a href=\"https:\/\/magpie.ae\/staging4\/event\/the-only-way-out-is-through-the-twentieth-line\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>The Third Line\u2019s 20th anniversary<\/strong><\/a>, curated by Shumon Basar. And one for the weekend: <a href=\"https:\/\/magpie.ae\/staging4\/event\/bady-dalloul-self-portrait-with-a-cat-i-dont-have-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Bady Dalloul<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s witty first institutional solo exhibition in the UAE is at the Jameel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today also sees the opening of <a href=\"https:\/\/taymourgrahne.com\/about\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Taymour Grahne Projects<\/strong><\/a>\u2019 Alserkal Avenue space&nbsp;at warehouse 31a. Taymour Grahne is more an art advisory than a gallery, in fact, but it\u2019s always good&nbsp;to see new entrants \u2013 especially when the opening show is by <a href=\"https:\/\/taymourgrahne.com\/exhibitions\/gail-spaien-arranging-flowers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Gail Spaien<\/strong><\/a>, whose highly approachable work helped win her a Hopper Prize a few years ago &#8230;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:#fcf100\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:#fcf100\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Useful app of the week<\/mark><\/strong><\/mark><\/strong>&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pdfsail.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">PDFsail<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;is a completely free, easy-to-use online PDF facility that includes editing, converting, merging and compressing.
