Going public<\/mark><\/strong> DCT Abu Dhabi has announced some details of the upcoming\u00a0Public Art Abu Dhabi Biennial<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0(which will be alternating with the Manar Abu Dhabi light art festival, inaugurated\u00a0last year). The Biennial will run 15 November to 30 April 30, with site-specific installations in downtown Abu Dhabi and Al Ain under the theme \u2018Public Matter\u2019. For us the exciting bit will be a Zeinab Alhashemi work that\u00a0pays tribute to one of our favourites sites \u2013 the Bus Terminal. More details when we have them …<\/p>\n\n\n\n Residency corner<\/mark><\/strong> A slew of fellowships, residencies and grants have suddenly appeared in our\u00a0Opportunities<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0listings. Well, three of them anyhow.\u00a0Louvre Abu Dhabi<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0has two art history fellowships, and both look quite generously funded (AED 85,000 for the three-month version, AED 245,000 for the nine-month\/academic year model) \u2013 apply\u00a0here<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0by 2 December.\u00a0Dubai Culture<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0has a more modest AED 50,000 grant for research on Emirati history and\/or culture based at the Etihad Museum; deadline 20 December, info\u00a0here<\/strong><\/a>. And over in Saudi, the soon-to-be-unveiled\u00a0Diriyah Art Futures<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0has a fully-funded three-month live-and-work residency for new media artists and\/or researchers \u2013 no national or geographic restrictions on applicants, though you\u2019ll need a track record. Apply by 20 January\u00a0on this link<\/strong><\/a>, which sounds a bit tight for a residency that starts in February …<\/p>\n\n\n\n Incidentally,\u00a0DAF<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0claims to be the region\u2019s first new media arts hub \u2013 a 6,550m2<\/sup> facility described as \u201ca state-of-the-art amalgamation of school, laboratory and exhibition space \u2026 overlooking the stunning preserved farms and archaeological sites of Diriyah\u201d. Looks promising.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Design for Dubai<\/mark><\/strong> Another collection of\u00a0interesting gallery shows in the next few days: we have high hopes for\u00a0Rand Abdul Jabbar<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0at Lawrie Shabibi,\u00a0Vian Sora<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0at The Third Line, and\u00a0Fariba Boroufar<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0at Gallery Isabelle (all opening today). And next week there\u2019s the Jameel\u2019s big over-winter\u00a0show,\u00a0Three Tired Tigers<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0\u2013 40+ artists and collectives muse on animals in the urban environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Extra Warhol<\/mark><\/strong> Andy Warhol, The Glam Factory<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0at Foundry Downtown has been\u00a0extended by an extra weekend \u201cdue to huge public interest\u201d and now closes on 3 November. It\u2019s definitely spectacular; tickets are AED 80 weekdays, AED 100 weekends. Book\u00a0here<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Farewell<\/mark><\/strong> It\u2019s also your last chance to see Leonardo\u2019s strangely androgynous and undeniably hypnotic\u00a0Saint John the Baptist<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0at Louvre Abu Dhabi \u2013 it\u2019s on show only until 3 November, after which it returns home to the Mus\u00e9e du Louvre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Screen and stars<\/mark><\/strong> It\u2019s cool enough now for VOX to reprise its\u00a0Moonlight open-air cinema<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0on the rooftop of Galleria Mall on Al Wasl Road.
