SUMMARY:CLOSING TODAY The Glitch: Fragmented Becoming
DESCRIPTION:A Diarbid show for 35 artists “who explore identity as fluid\, layered\, and continuously evolving. Through fragmented\, distorted\, duplicated\, and incomplete forms\, the works examine how the self is shaped by memory\, displacement\, shifting environments\, and the uncertainties of contemporary life. The glitch functions as both a visual language and a metaphor for these shifting states …  By interrupting familiar forms and unsettling recognition\, it opens alternative ways of seeing and becoming. Fragmentation is approached not as loss\, but as a generative space where the familiar can be disrupted and the incomplete can remain open to new possibilities …”

SUMMARY:Stephan Kaluza: From Dust to Bloom
DESCRIPTION:Stephan Kaluza’s practice is fundamentally concerned with depictions of nature\, either as hyper-realistic oils or near-abstract renderings. These two modes of painting should be seen as different stages of the same subject in a process of transformation: disruptions creep in\, and appearances prove deceptive. Says the gallery: “At first glance\, the paintings appear to be precise\, almost preservative images of an intact world – until a second layer emerges\, sharply challenging what is being seen”. To 31 October. \nAbove: Stephan Kaluza\, Impact (2026)

SUMMARY:CLOSING TODAY Kevork Mourad: The Echoes of Silent Bells
DESCRIPTION:A descendant of Armenian Genocide survivors and raised in Syria\, Mourad approaches his work with a profound sense of responsibility to preserve culture and history; his practice aims to give voice to places that no longer exist\, offering an interpretation of what has been lost while seeking ways that history and culture might be recovered\, at least within emotional memory.

SUMMARY:House to House: Articulating a Poetics of Translucence
DESCRIPTION:Shamma Al Bastaki – poet\, writer\, interdisciplinary artist and NYUAD alumna – discusses her latest poetry collection\, House to House. Drawing on memories spanning the 1940s to the 1980s\, Shamma traces the infra-ordinary details of daily life along the Dubai Creek\, bringing the voices\, values\, and stories of a generation into poetic form. Blending documentary poetics\, archival research\, and text-image practices\, Shamma reflects on her processes of listening\, translating\, and transducing\, as she transformed collective memory into poetry\, drawing\, and collage.

SUMMARY:The Marriage of Figaro Ballet
DESCRIPTION:The Ukrainian National Ballet brings its version of The Marriage of Figaro to Dubai as a two-act comic ballet with a libretto by Yaremenko and Yuri Stanishevsky\, choreography and staging by Viktor Yaremenko\, and musical adaptation and additional composition by Oleksiy Baklan. \nIt’s based on Mozart’s opera\, but is a fully danced work with no singing; one review says it emphasises “hijinks rather than heartache\,” so we’re expecting something lighter and more overtly playful than the original. But the story is broadly retained\, the major dances and duets deploy the classical ballet vocabulary\, and the production uses lavish eighteenth-century costumes and palace settings; the music generally avoids the opera’s familiar arias and ensembles in favour of some of Mozart’s less-famous instrumental music\, supplemented by Baklan’s own composition. \nThere are further performances on 19 and 20 September.

SUMMARY:Spider's Web
DESCRIPTION:Agatha Christie’s second most successful play (The Mousetrap is probably uncatchable) is a country-house thriller-comedy with clues aplenty and a good helping of plot contrivances – including a most convenient hidden door in the study that of course leads to a secret passage – and a disappearing corpse. Sarah Potter directs for the Junction’s resident company H72 Productions. Should be good fun. \nThere are further performances tomorrow (19 September) and Sunday (20 September).

SUMMARY:Bashar Khalaf: The Field of Dreams
DESCRIPTION:Two series of works\, Junk Garden and Protective Shield\, from the Ramallah-born artist. “The Field of Dreams is an exploration of formations of ‘steel’ in the public space from the perspective of the relationship between the self\, the object\, and the other” says the gallery. “It can be viewed as an interactive space with the fragile reality in which humanity lives.” \nKhalaf’s dreaming energy gives steel junk – bulldozers\, vehicles\, surveillance cameras – an chance for self-reinvention; it confronts the machine with its own existence\, giving it a tragic form and allowing it reposition itself over time. The garbage bins in Protective Shield were used during the First Intifada to block street and provide shelter from bullets ; in contrast\, the colonial system used steel barrels filled with cement to seal off the entrances to villages and camps. \nTo 8 November.

SUMMARY:Makers Days
DESCRIPTION:Dubai Culture’s Makers Days initiative is back – two days intended to promote creative manufacturing in Dubai by bringing together makers\, designers\, artists\, creative entrepreneurs\, manufacturers\, and fabricators with a view to promoting new opportunities for SMEs (both manufacturers and people who might want something made). It’s aiming to attract more than 150 participants for a programme of workshops\, talks\, panel discussions\, networking sessions; a Maker’s Connect programme will provide “curated mentorship opportunities”; and there will be guided visits to a selection of production facilities within the Al Quoz Creative Zone. \nApplogies for the lack of detail; we have gleaned this much from a press release but there doesn’t seem to be any online information either at Dubai Culture’s website or Alserkal’s. The programme will probably be published first on Instagram\, so maybe keep an eye on that. We’ll try to keep abreast of this and update when we can …

SUMMARY:Spider's Web
DESCRIPTION:A second night of performances for Agatha Christie’s play. It is a country-house thriller-comedy with clues aplenty and a good helping of plot contrivances – including a most convenient hidden door in the study that of course leads to a secret passage – and a disappearing corpse. Sarah Potter directs for the Junction’s resident company H72 Productions. Should be good fun. \nThe final performances are tomorrow (20 September) at 2.30pm and 7.30pm.

SUMMARY:The Marriage of Figaro Ballet
DESCRIPTION:The final performances of the Ukrainian National Ballet’s danced version of The Marriage of Figaro. The story is broadly retained\, the major dances and duets deploy the classical ballet vocabulary\, and the production uses lavish eighteenth-century costumes and palace settings; the music generally avoids the opera’s familiar arias and ensembles in favour of some of Mozart’s less-famous instrumental music\, supplemented by original composition. \nThere are further performances at 2pm and 8pm.

SUMMARY:CLOSING TODAY Laila Majid and Inaam Zafar: Body Quotidian
DESCRIPTION:Recent works by Laila Majid and Inaam Zafar that explore the human body and its presence in contemporary life through metaphor and symbolism. In Majid’s practice\, sculptural and photographic works unfold through slow revelation; Zafar’s practice explores themes of death and decay\, while foregrounding the body as a perishable entity. Bringing together these works\, Body Quotidian explores how light\, material\, gesture and atmosphere filters bodily experience; Moving between domestic scenes and abstraction\, the exhibition reflects on the quiet\, everyday moments through which the body continues to shape how we see and inhabit the world. \n
