DESCRIPTION:New ink drawings on paper and acrylic paintings on canvas from the French-based Syrian artist that offer viewers a journey through colour\, symbolism\, and contemplation. These are works that “reflect on the mystical power of nature\, its geometry and order\, and the existential questions it raises about human nature”\, drawing inspiration from the fields of sunflowers that grow around Ajaj’s Dordogne home. The sunflower is in dialogue with a snake motif. – “while the sunflower follows light\, embodying warmth and optimism\, the snake [is] a signifier of temptation and betrayal; in other traditions\, a symbol of renewal and healing. The works invite viewers to consider that within darkness lies the potential for renewal”.

DESCRIPTION:The first solo exhibition in the UAE for the Tehran-based artist-designer presents a collection of the artist’s jewellery and wearable sculptures. Body Geometry is a research-based project\, where the design process is presented as well as the finished pieces. As the title indicates\, the show explores the relationship between body; Hemmati says all the works in this new collection are derived from three foundational forms of Islamic geometry.

Director and writer Nanda Mohammad joins composer and violinist Mohamed Sami to offer a deeply personal reflection on the emotional journey of their long marriage\, revealing how true love can endure even in a fragmented world. Each performer expresses themselves through their art: Inviting the audience to contemplate the fragility of human connection\, Searching for Love urges us to rediscover the affection we have for our cities and for one another. SUMMARY:The Wind Will Carry Us: dir Abbas Kiarostami (1999)
DESCRIPTION:Kiarostami wrote and directed this deceptively simple but highly affecting film about a journalist posing as a city engineer who arrives in a Kurdish village to document the locals’ mourning rituals in anticipation of the death of an old woman. She doesn’t die\, though\, and the journalist is forced to slow down and appreciate the lifestyle of the village. The result is a beautifully shot movie\, simple and honest\, about life\, death\, and living … \nScreens as part of a new monthly film programme in Efie’s Rekord Gallery tracing the intertwined histories of African and Arab Liberation Cinema: “through a carefully curated selection of films\, the series interrogates how revolutionary aesthetics\, political struggle\, and the diasporic imagination have shaped\, and continue to shape\, the language of cinema across continents”. It’s organised with Bootleg Griot\, an independent public library project currently ensconced in the Rekord Gallery that is aimed at improving access to literature and print media – especially from writers and collectives of African descent.
