SUMMARY:Potted Potter
DESCRIPTION:The final Dubai performances (at 3pm and 7pm) of this very silly\, very funny show: all seven Harry Potter books (and a game of Quidditch) condensed into 70 minutes\, with all the main Harry Potter characters\, endless costumes\, brilliant songs\, ridiculous props\, and a special appearance from a fire-breathing dragon … “Gloriously irreverent\,” said Time Out London; “inventive\, daft fun for all the family” said the Guardian. \nThere are further shows at Abu Dhabi’s Cultural Foundation on 21 and 22 February.

SUMMARY:Block Barty
DESCRIPTION:“Better than the art afterparty” claims 421. “We’re ramping up the art season with pop-up vendors\, independent brands\, eclectic workshops\, diverse entertainment\, neighbourhood walks\, and obviously\, more art … Block Barty is for the ‘art’ people\, the non-art art people\, the people you kinda know from the internet but not really because approaching them might be awkward (but you do it anyway). And the people who bring their confused – but supportive – parents to the party.” \nNot sure that tells us much\, but the enthusiasm is undeniable – and it’s all free. The weekend features workshops and participations\, food stalls\, the Urban Market Concept (“pop-ups\, thrifting and more”)\, and live music and breakdancing on stage: \n14 February\n7-9pm Mic Sessions by The Fridge\n9pm-1am Last Seen Live Leoné Murphy\, Fulana\, Adiga & Sammany followed by DJ Mobat & DJ Justiblvck \n15 February\n7-9pm Break Dance Battle by the Urban Market Concept\n9pm-1am Last Seen Live Nurzy\, & Zaid Khaled followed by DJ Gloria & DJ eLo

SUMMARY:Romeo and Juliet
DESCRIPTION:Now this looks a lot of fun: a version of the Shakespeare play (pretty faithful to the original\, apparently) woven together with Queen music\, a five-piece band and choir\, dancing\, and lots of swordfighting. \nSays the blurb: “Imagine Shakespeare’s classic envisioned by Freddie Mercury\, blending elements of Zeffirelli\, Baz Luhrmann\, Jamie Lloyd and Bridgerton into a magical spectacle. The production features iconic Queen hits such as Bohemian Rhapsody\, We Will Rock You\, Somebody to Love\, Who wants to live forever and We are the Champions …” Director Alex Broun says the adaptation by Lydia DeSouza “takes the original story to a whole new level and reveals magic that may often be lost in the text. The show literally has everything – dancing\, duels\, romance\, singing\, and one of the greatest love stories of all time. This will be a night of pure joy you won’t forget.” And of course it opens on Valentine’s Day … \nThe production is directed by Broun for the highly rated Cross Bronx Crew\, “an award-winning theatre group that loves the art of acting\, making good theatre\, and having fun while we do it …”. The cast features a mix of some of the city’s top actors plus recent Sharjah Performing Arts Academy graduates ”and exciting new faces”. Musical direction is by Sam Randall\, choreography by Beth Mitchinson from Music Theatre Dubai\, and fight choreography by Jay Nagjee. \nThere are further performances at 2.30 and 7.30pm on 15 February and 7.30pm on 16 February.
