The common factor is that they “cultivate a visceral and intimate relationship with nature” and “blur temporal boundaries between presence and absence\, fullness and lack\, past and present\, engaging in generative rites that foster creation\, fertility\, and renewal … Bodies morph\, adapt\, and redefine themselves\, existing in states of transition and transformation … They embody the power of attraction and interaction\, functioning as entities that react and interact with their surroundings”. \nFighting though the thickets of verbiage\, this looks like it could be a top show for the new season: the participants are all interesting\, provocative artists with something to say and novel ways of saying it. \n

DESCRIPTION:An exhibition created by the Bulgarian immersive-experience specialists Poliforma\, using surround-sound and surround-visuals to celebrate “stories of people who have overcome\, adapted\, or ignored their limitations” through “captivating video inserts\, stunning 3D projections\, and four interactive installations”. Apparently it’s “a revolutionary digital art exhibition fully adapted for people with disabilities that celebrates resilience\, creativity\, and the ability to shape the world\, no matter the obstacles”. \nIt runs to 23 December. You book a one-hour slot; first available is 10am (1pm on Saturdays)\, last is 8pm (4pm Monday to Wednesday).

DESCRIPTION:Two spectacular dance projects show how a young generation of dancers from all over the world are rediscovering Pina Bausch’s choreography: the Semperoper Ballet Company in Dresden rehearses her dance opera Iphigenia in Tauris\, and dancers from all over Africa rehearse Bausch’s ballet Le Sacre du Printemps at the École des Sables in Senegal. Dancers from traditions street dance\, classical ballet\, traditional and modern African dance transform Pina Bausch’s work – and Pina’s choreography transforms the dancers. A visually intense and emotionally charged journey into the world of modern dance and beyond. \nThe screening\, in the MOVE ON FILM season\, is followed by a talk and Q&A with Jean Laurent Sasportes (a principal dancer with the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch from 1979 to 1997 who has continued to be involved with the Pina Bausch repertoire).

DESCRIPTION:On the stage of the Opéra Bastille in Paris\, 30 dancers from non-traditional genres – hip-hop\, krump\, break\, voguing – reprise and remix Jean-Philippe Rameau’s baroque 1735 masterpiece\, Les Indes galantes. It’s an opera offensive to modern sensibilities that reflected French colonial expansion and represented the myth of the noble savage; this documentary follows the cast over the course of a year as they take the idea from concept to stage\, culminating in a performance run at the Opéra Bastille. The modern mix of urban dance and opera singing represents both a human adventure and a meeting of political realities: so can a new generation of artists storm the Bastille today? Screens in the MOVE ON FILM season.
