SUMMARY:Fujairah Children's Book Fair
DESCRIPTION:The inaugural Fujairah Children’s Book Fair will run 13-19 October 13 to 19 at Fujairah’s Al Bayt Mitwahid Hall. We know little about the event – it has Instagram and Facebook accounts\, but right now they’re post-free and there’s no website – but it will feature publishers from the UAE\, Saudi Arabia\, Kuwait\, Egypt and Jordan in four thematic zones: Imagination\, Adventure\, Creative and Future. Alongside the publishers’ stands there will be a programme of events including  workshops and conversations with authors.

SUMMARY:CLOSING TODAY Magnus Gjoen: The Future of The Past
DESCRIPTION:Gjoen invites the viewer to explore the delicate balance between history and modernity\, as envisioned through a distinctive style that fuses street art influences with pop culture and fine art – symbols and themes from the Renaissance and Baroque are reimagined to challenge traditional views of beauty. That aesthetic isn’t too surprising; after studying fine art and fashion design\, Gjoen worked with Vivienne Westwood en route to a full-time commitment to art rather than fashion. The gallery is suitably bullish: “The Future of The Past … transports viewers across timelines\, challenging the thought of what was\, what is and perhaps what could be”.

SUMMARY:Post-Impressionism: Beyond Appearances
DESCRIPTION:An exhibition of masterpieces from the Post-Impressionist period that is organised into in nine sections\, each celebrating both the individual styles and the shared themes that connect this transformative era in art – visitors can follow paths dedicated to Neo-Impressionism\, Cézanne\, Gauguin and Pont-Aven\, Van Gogh\, the Nabis\, Toulouse-Lautrec\, Odilon Redon\, Prints\, and the new movements that emerged. The final section\, which includes works by the Egyptian artist Georges Hanna Sabbagh\, illustrates how the influence of Post-Impressionism reached beyond Europe. To 9 February.

SUMMARY:Wednesday Night Impro: Maestro
DESCRIPTION:The Courtyard’s regular evening of elimination improv. Ten actors converge for a night of scenes\, songs and games based on audience suggestions. After each round you score the players on a scale of 1 to 5\, and the one with the lowest score is knocked out. Eventually only one remains\, to be crowned the Maestro. “Fast-paced\, unpredictable\, and hilarious” says the promo\, and you couldn’t argue with that. As with all Courtyard improv evenings it’s free\, but you need to put your name on the guestlist (via the website); and it’s first-come first-served\, so get there early to grab a seat. \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n
