The previews look great\, and the watery additions do add to the circus skills on show. Thierry Antonios\, founder and Managing Partner at Cirque Du Liban\, described Fontana as “a perfect blend of creativity and strategic partnership\, enhancing the vibrant cultural tapestry of Abu Dhabi … we are excited to share this extraordinary experience with the audiences of Yas Island”. \nIt all happens in a purpose-built big top circus tent near twofour54. DESCRIPTION:The Jameel’s annual handover of the arts centre to a selected cohort of young visionaries starts on Saturday 4 May and runs to Monday 27 May. There will be multiple artwork and installation “interventions” across the ground floor of the building\, both indoors and outdoors\, with a public programme of talks\, performances and more on the four weekends. \nThe Assembly is an annual experimental learning programme designed to foster creative leaders aged 18 to 24 in the UAE\, inviting the creation and curation of projects reflective of their generation’s areas of interest. This year’s learning programme was designed\, curated and facilitated by Abhirami Suresh\, Library and Youth Coordinator at Art Jameel\, in collaboration with Osemudiamen Ekore\, alumnus of The Assembly 2022-2023. DESCRIPTION:A solo exhibition for the London-based artist that draws inspiration from Buhais Geology Park and Jebel Buhais archaeological site in Al Madam. Neelova’s sculptures\, crafted from a variety of materials including glass\, clay\, and fossilized shark teeth\, offer a speculative view of the ancient marine life that once inhabited the region; each piece tells a story of transformation and decay\, merging chemistry\, alchemy and geology to mirror the constant flux of material exchanges that define our world\, engaging in dialogue with fossils from archaeologist Nirmal Rajah’s collection. \nTo 11 October.

SUMMARY:Les Triplettes de Belleville: dir Sylvain Chomet (2003)
DESCRIPTION:A quite brilliant full-length animated comedy\, largely dialogue-free (though this version is in French with English subtitles: it was released in the UK as Belleville Rendezvous) about an elderly woman on a quest to rescue her grandson\, a Tour de France cyclist called Champion; he’s been kidnapped by the French mafia for nefarious purposes that become clear as the film progresses. She is accompanied by Champion’s loyal if obese dog Bruno\, and she’s joined by the Triplets of Belleville – a trio of eccentric music hall singers from the 1930s. It’s a great story\, something of a modern classic of animation\, and the idiosyncratic visuals are excellent. Highly recommended.

DESCRIPTION:You can’t fault the Junction’s resident H72 theatre company for lack of ambition; Othello is an expansive play\, full of big characters and demanding powerful acting to deliver Shakespeare’s tale of jealousy\, interpersonal politics and social commentary. We know little of this show – it wasn’t featuring on the Junction’s website when we were compiling the Agenda – but anything directed by Gautam Goenka is going to be worth seeing. \nThere are shows on 17\, 18 and 19 May.
