SUMMARY:Oriental and Orientalist: Two Worlds Apart
DESCRIPTION:A lecture by Saleh Barakat\, a Beirut-based gallerist (he founded Agial Art Gallery and then Saleh Barakat Gallery) who specialises in modern and contemporary art from the Arab world. His talk considers the way Western artists have portrayed the Middle East as contrasted with the vernacular perspectives of modern Arab artists. “Explore the nuanced similarities and stark differences that define and separate these artistic visions” say the organisers\, for whom this will be the first of a series of art history lectures.
