Musical

Chicago

19 September 2024 · AED 185
Etihad Arena · Yas Island, Abu Dhabi

The second weekend of performances for “the most exciting musical of its generation” (The Times).

First seen in 1975 and still an all-round stunner, it is based on a 1926 play by one-time reporter Maurine Dallas Watkins and is built around actual crimes on which she reported; the book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse paints a tantalising tale of passion, murder, greed, betrayal, and redemption through the journey of two fiercely competitive women – aspiring jazz performer Roxie Hart and former vaudevillian (and double-murderess) Velma Kelly. John Kander and Fred Ebb were responsible for the score, with each song modelled on a traditional vaudeville number or a vaudeville performer – a format that helped to make explicit the show’s comparison between justice, showbiz, and contemporary society.

Performances:

19 September 7pm
20 September 7pm
21 September 1pm
21 September 7pm
22 September 1pm
22 September 6pm

There are the door-open times; we’d guess the actual performances start an hour later. Ticket prices are higher for weekend shows
