SUMMARY:Eman Al Hashemi: The Horizon We Inherit
DESCRIPTION:Al Hashemi’s practice examines what it means to remain human within increasingly automated systems of production and consumption – especiallyy seen through urban life in the Emirates. Al Hashemi works across ceramics\, printmaking and painting\, “investigating the systems through which contemporary experience is organized: the routes that structure daily movement\, the artificial illuminations that shape public space\, and the habitual routines through which urban environments are encountered and internalised … Central to this inquiry is the sun\, which recurs throughout the exhibition as both a defining condition of life in the UAE and a means of thinking through the relationship between body\, landscape\, and the built environment”. \nRight: Eman Al Hashemi\, Shams I\, Shams II\, Shams III (2026)

SUMMARY:CLOSING TODAY Nothing Worth Mentioning
DESCRIPTION:An exhibition featuring more than 40 works by 16 photographers (of different nationalities\, but all based in the UAE) that seek to find beauty and meaning in the small moments of everyday life\, personal rituals\, routines\, brief encounters\, simple gestures and humble places we often overlook. As the gallery puts it\, “It reminds us that sometimes the things we dismiss as ordinary are the things that tell us who we are\, where we come from\, and what we remember”. \nThe exhibition is curated by Ola Allouz\, herself an award-winning photographer; her idea for the exhibition grew from taking groups of photographers on trips to the village of Kumzar. For Allouz\, the moments around the table stayed with her the most\, sharing food\, stories\, laughter\, and conversation. That led to the question at the heart of the exhibition: ‘Can a feeling be archived?”’ \nThere are works by Abdallah Alastad\, Abdulla Al Ghurair\, Abdulla Alblooshi\, Aisha Esmaeilzadeh\, Akhilesh Nair\, April Ann Vocal\, Fatima Al Amiri\, Fatima Albudoor\, Judite Serafim\, Latifa Almazrouei\, Maitha Alqassmi\, Maria Khodzhamberdieva\, Mohamed Al Alawi\, Preschelle Ann Bigueras\, Sara Al Shamsi and Ola Allouz herself.

SUMMARY:Mozart’s Greatest
DESCRIPTION:You can’t fault the UAENO’s ambition in naming this programme – the title almost precludes discussion. It includes three admittedly classic works\, but there must surely have been a strong case for others (we’d have gone for the Symphony No.41 ‘Jupiter’ as one of the greatest). Still\, it is a strong programme that highlights Mozart’s versatility as well as his technical skills\, ranging from the often dark intensity of the opener through virtuosity and musical brilliance to the dramatic intensity and emotional depth of Symphony No.40. \nAhmed Farag conducts the UAE National Orchestra\, with the Serbian pianist Nenad Ivović the soloist for the Piano Concerto. \nThe programme: \nOverture from Don Giovanni\, K.527\nPiano Concerto No.21 in C Major\, K. 467\nSymphony No.40 in G minor\, K.550

SUMMARY:Blue Heron (Egy nyár emléke): dir Sophy Romvari (2025)
DESCRIPTION:A deeply personal portrait of childhood\, family fractures\, and the fragility of recollection from award-winning filmmaker Sophy Romvari\, who drew on her own experiences for her feature debut – a deeply personal portrait of childhood\, family fractures\, and the fragility of recollection. It’s a singular coming-of-age story\, masterfully chronicling the haze of a languid summer and the hyaline clarity of the moments that defined it. \nIn the late 1990s\, eight-year-old Sasha (Eylul Guven) and her Hungarian Canadian family relocate to a new home on Vancouver Island\, but they struggle to deal with the increasingly dangerous behavioural issues of her older brother\, Jeremy (Edik Beddoes). Though Sasha overhears snatches of conversations – a distressed telephone call\, a meeting with a social worker – she never fully understands what’s happening around her. Perhaps she never will … \nPresented by Hind Mezaina’s Culturist Film Club.

SUMMARY:Fabian Philandrianos and Pascal Navarro: Beyond the Gaze
DESCRIPTION:“An exhibition exploring the perception and relationship between the viewer and the artwork … an invitation to discover what may appear when we take the time to look beyond the surface.” The two French artists offer a dialogue between the figurative and the abstract\, the intimate and the universal\, movement and stillness: “from the intensity of a human gaze to the vastness of an imagined landscape\, the works encourage us to slow down\, look again and allow perception to shift”. \nTo 14 October.

SUMMARY:CLOSING TODAY Mohamed Monaiseer: 85 Seconds To Midnight
DESCRIPTION:Monaiseer’s solo show examines history through cycles\, repetition and flows\, while testing the unstable boundary between imagination and reality. The title references the current status of the Doomsday Clock and its measurement of humanity’s proximity to catastrophe; notions of war\, occupation and imperial power have long animated his practice\, and here he considers how they recur across contexts and generations\, altering borders\, enemies and technologies while preserving familiar structures of domination. \nThe exhibition comprises drawings\, paintings\, sculptures and textile works\, as well as a video installation. Recurring motifs in these works are absorbed from literary fiction\, popular storytelling and contemporary media. And dark humour runs through them; for Monaiseer it is a means of examining the performance of power and the fantasies through which conflict can be romanticised\, rehearsed and projected. \nElsewhere\, pixelated figures and fragmented grids evoke the digital mediation of contemporary warfare and our era of misinformation\, in which information is increasingly manipulated and corrupted online. Monaiseer has previously engaged with the historical construction of conflict; in these works he considers how conflict reaches us through technology\, through compressed images\, screens\, news feeds and endlessly circulating footage\, producing realities that are experienced at a distance and often manipulated.

SUMMARY:CLOSING TODAY Habeeb Abu-Futtaim: The Ongoing Performance of Melancholia and Songs in Solitude
DESCRIPTION:Two interconnected exhibitions\, both curated by Mo Reda and supported by the Department of Painting and Printmaking at VCUarts Qatar. Together\, The Ongoing Performance of Melancholia and Songs in Solitude mark the culmination of a two-month residency at Bayt AlMamzar; they present several different bodies of work developed over the past ten years\, drawing from an artistic practice shaped by sustained research\, investigation\, and critical inquiry. \nWorking across painting\, installation\, performance\, video\, and writing\, Abu-Futtaim investigates the construction and performance of collective identities\, examining how inherited symbols\, political imaginaries\, and cultural narratives become internalized as expressions of belonging. Songs in Solitude reflects on the intimate space of artistic practice through playfulness\, imagination\, intimacy\, and selfhood; The Ongoing Performance of Melancholia turns outward to examine the inherited performances of collective identity and the burden of unrealized political futures. Between them the exhibitions move between the personal and the political\, revealing how solitude\, memory\, and collective imagination continually shape one another.

SUMMARY:CLOSING TODAY Global Positioning System
DESCRIPTION:An ambitious large-scale group exhibition dedicated to mapping and navigation systems\, “telling stories of fast cars and donkeys\, spinning globes and street barricades\, cosmic highways and broken bridges … [it] delves into topographies\, transit lines and simulated landscapes to engage critically with the infrastructure of movement and navigation”. Set against real and imagined geographies and landscapes\, the exhibition asks questions about the infrastructures that enable transport and trade\, the promises of speed and progress\, the meaning of home\, and what ‘navigation’ means when the destination is not a place but a memory … It is curated by Indranjan Banerjee and Lucas Morin (both exhibition curators at the Jameel) and features 30 artists. A second ‘chapter’ of the exhibition runs at Hayy Jameel in Jeddah to 26 October featuring 22 artists – a third of whom are from the Dubai roster\, with new names making up the balance.

SUMMARY:Juma Alhaj: Revelation
DESCRIPTION:The first institutional solo exhibition by Emirati artist Juma Alhaj is the culmination of his participation in 421 Arts Campus’ Artistic Development Program. Grounded in reading\, journaling\, and philosophical inquiry\, it explores themes of reflection\, solitude\, and self-discovery; the exhibition marks “a significant and ambitious evolution in his practice” according to the gallery\, expanding beyond painting into installation for the first time. \nVisitors experience it barefoot (the space is carpeted); throughout the exhibition\, Alhaj’s abstract inscriptions\, encompassing both writing and image\, extend across glass\, fabric\, light\, and architecture – “shifting with the environment and the movement of visitors through the exhibition”. \nTo 10 January. \n

SUMMARY:Wednesday Night Impro: Maestro
DESCRIPTION:The Courtyard’s popular evening of elimination improv. Ten actors converge for a night of scenes\, songs and games based on audience suggestions. After each round you score the players on a scale of 1 to 5\, and the one with the lowest score is knocked out. Eventually only one remains\, to be crowned the Maestro. “Fast-paced\, unpredictable\, and hilarious” says the promo\, and you couldn’t argue with that. As with all Courtyard improv evenings it’s free\, but you need to put your name on the guestlist (via the website); and it’s first-come first-served\, so get there early to grab a seat.

SUMMARY:Fellow Travellers
DESCRIPTION:An exhibition conceived and curated by Prof Omar Kholeif\, featuring Sonia Balassanian\, Jai Chuhan\, Luísa Correia Pereira\, Lalitha Lajmi\, Irene Scheinmann and Omar Kholeif himself. \nDeveloped from nearly two decades of Kholeif’s research\, writing and relationships with artists\, the exhibition is an ambitious-sounding attempt to “re-dream the routes\, flows and counter-flows of modernity through the present”. As Kholief puts it: “Here\, the diasporic imagination is reclaimed\, illuminating the possibilities of shared movement—literal and metaphorical\, exploring how it affects artistic method. Fellow Travellers is a parcel\, a constitutive act of worlding\, of dreaming …” \nFellow Travellers brings landmark and rarely seen works from five artists into dialogue with Kholeif’s own paintings; painting is seen as a connective thread through which diasporic histories\, oral traditions\, symbolic languages and forms of ancestral knowledge can be recovered and reimagined. \nThe exhibition is accompanied by a limited-edition publication featuring original poetry and a curatorial essay. \nTo 30 November.
