The International Women Photographers Association runs an annual exhibition for female photographers, and next year for the first time it will be held in Dubai. There’s an open call for submissions – women only, obviously, but there are few other restrictions on entrants. The deadline is 31 January.
Candidates should submit a “consistent” set of 10 to 15 photos as hi-res digitised images, accompanied by CV and an accompanying statement. Submissions can be made in two theme categories – one named (Borders) and one free theme – and the subject is not limited to women.
Ten finalists, including one laureate, will be selected by “a specially selected international jury comprising of eminent figures of the art community” from a shortlist that will be announced at the end of February.
The exhibition of the winner’s work will open on 8 March, which by no coincidence at all is International Women’s Day. The laureate’s photographs will be displayed for a month and the exhibition is expected to tour some cities in the Middle East and Europe.
The IWPA is well established – photographer Severine Blanchet founded the French-based organisation in 2001 – but this will be the first year its exhibition has opened in Dubai. It’s organised by the IWPA and Dubai-based art/design agency Antidote in collaboration with Alliance Française Dubai.
