Mind the Gap: open call

We live in a world of gaps – cultural, creative, economic, educational, gender, generational, professional, and social. And that’s not even including the physical gaps between paving stones or apartment blocks.

So we think ‘Mind the Gap’ is a great subject for an Open Call by Tashkeel. The brief is “to re-invent chance, providence and random encounters to stimulate thinking, charge our emotions and confound our expectations, and in turn, help illuminate the gaps and the opportunities they unveil”.

The resulting exhibition at the end of February will be a culmination of the process, rather than just the focal point; an event that brings people together, shares happiness, and distributes knowledge, while documenting research.

Tashkeel is looking for submissions that explore a variety of mediums, from photography to printmaking, the use of archival material to provoke memories, and the art of sound to foster emotions.

The call is open to “artists, designers, culturists, chefs, dancers, performers, scientists, engineers, technologists and writers” who live in the Emirates. The work submitted must be original work or not previously exhibited.

Application forms and accompanying images must be submitted by midnight on 28 January. Here’s the information sheet with the form.
