Tarek Al-Ghoussein: Odysseus
A selection of new works from an ongoing series documenting islands off the coast of Abu Dhabi. Much like Homer’s Odyssey, Al-Ghoussein’s work is as much about the journey as it is about the final images; a dreamlike colour spectrum and whimsical composition means his world is slightly surreal, both delightful and disquieting – despite being shot in real places, the photographs lack specific geographical signifiers.
Currently a Professor of Visual Art at NYU Abu Dhabi, Tarek Al-Ghoussein has an unusual and very personal eye for composition; his photography of places goes beyond documentation to invite questions and responses. At least, that’s what magpie thinks …
To 5 May.
