Place Publique: dir Agnès Jaoui (2018)
8 October @ 7.30 pm - 9.30 pmFree, but pre-register
It’s a lovely afternoon in the countryside near Paris and the housewarming party is in full swing; but everyone is dancing on a volcano. Nathalie is the hostess, producer of cynical but has-been TV host Castro and sister to his ex-wife Hélène. Their daughter Nina also turns up, having just published a book in which the main characters borrow heavily from her parents’ flaws … A comedy that satirises middle-class concerns and pragmatism versus idealism, with Jean-Pierre Bacri in excellent form as Castro and the director herself as the principled Hélène.
A Cine Club presentation, in French with English subtitles; the screening is followed by a short discussion on the film in French.
