Oddisee + Medusa TN

7 September @ 8.00 am - 5.00 pm

Sudanese-American hip-hop star Oddisee and rising Tunisian MC Medusa TN feature in new online performances filmed specifically for the JAM3A Festival, followed by a live Q&A with Big Hass, the UAE-based Saudi hip-hop pioneer.

Born in Washington DC to a Sudanese father and African-American mother, DMV rapper and record producer Oddisee (below) saw stark inequity early in life and became as political as the city he was raised in. He tackles the human condition with unwavering conviction and candour, merging elements of jazz, funk and go-go into his hip-hop production.

Medusa TN (top) is a Tunisian rapper immersed in Tunisia’s burgeoning hip-hop scene from the age of 10; she began with breakdance before getting into rap and has now become a force to reckon with in the male-dominated Tunis scene.

JAM3A (Arabic for “gathering”) engages communities to experience the many cultures of the Arab World and its diaspora. This is a free four-day virtual festival showcasing Arabic talent and identity with s musical performances, a curated “artisan virtual vendor market”, and artist talkbacks and workshops. With anticipated daily audiences in the thousands, this festival activates AANM’s cultivated national and worldwide virtual audience. Free to the public, the festival is well worth catching; it will be live streamed across various platforms 23-26 September, and bands playing include past Arts Center acts 47SOUL and Alsarah & The Nubatones.
