Laura Barnett in Conversation
15 October @ 7.00 pm - 8.00 pm
Laura Barnett has two novels to her name already, both successful in literary and financial terms, and is working on a third; The Versions of Us (2015) scored some great reviews – “well written, stunningly crafted and constantly surprising” said The Times – and established Barnett as a writer given to slightly unconventional and technically interesting approaches to structure. Her second, Greatest Hits (2017), has 60-something Cass compiling an album of personal songs from her back catalogue, and that too won critical acclaim: the Guardian noted that “it has a wisdom and a harmony that are satisfying, as Cass considers ‘all the years that had, with such incomprehensible swiftness, rolled by and disappeared”.
An arts journalist and theatre critic, Laura has delivered a TEDx talk on originality in fiction and teaches creative writing in London and at Manchester Metropolitan University; indeed, Ms Barnett will also be delivering two creative writing courses in association with Curtis Brown Creative and the Emirates Literature Foundation while she is in Dubai – one for beginners (11-13 October) and one for more advanced writing (17-19 October).
This evening is part of the Emirates Literature Foundation’s year-round programme.
