LAST CHANCE Alfred Basbous: Figurative to Abstraction (part one)
10 November 2016Free
Here’s a major opportunity to see work by the late Alfred Basbous, a master of sculpture and something of an icon for Lebanese art.
His work is all about shape: “I am in ongoing dialogue with the medium I work with,” he said once. “It is the fact of searching for the most beautiful line or form, whether abstract or classical or figurative.” His work exemplifies that search, and particularly the desire to find literal and aesthetic balance.
His works are in many public and private collections throughout the world, including the Ashmolean in Oxford and the Musée Rodin in Paris, and in public areas several Lebanese cities.
This curated show is a two part exhibition of selected studies, drawings and works – part two opens on 23 Nov and runs to next January.
