La puce à l’oreille
27 November @ 7.30 pm - 9.30 pmAED 45
The classic belle époque Feydeau farce, delivered with gusto by the Comédie Française and distributed as a live film of the performance. It’s a madcap story of mistakes, misunderstandings, misapprehensions, a lookalike, thwarted seduction and confrontations in a shady hotel … which happens to include a room that has a bed on a turntable (if the wronged spouse arrives at the door, the illicit bed can quickly be replaced by an innocent one). It’s an exquisitely constructed play, actually not too far removed from the tragedy of Othello (both pivot on the main characters jumping to conclusions about a lost item – Desdemona’s handkerchief, Victor Emmanuel Chandebise’s braces) but rendered achingly funny by the breathless pace and the farcical contrivance. It’s in French, of course, but with English subtitles. AF members pay AED 35, for others it’s AED 45.
