Dubai artist Kristel Bechara has opened a gallery in DIFC with a collection of ten acrylic paintings from a new collection that takes its name from the 5th century poem The Psychomachia, a medieval allegory popular in its time that relates an action-packed battle between the Virtues and Vices for possession of the human soul. Bechara has sought to explore the conflict between good and evil “and the grey areas in between”; each painting is “an invitation to self-introspection and discovery”, largely featuring mythological figures and fables that are given Bechara’s signature treatment of high colour picked out from a more monochrome background.
To 13 May.
